Like Light in Light, 2020 (video excerpt: gnats). Charcoal on paper, with garden shadows

Interactions of real, emulated, and recorded light are used to navigate the artist’s position relative to local plants, birds, and insects.

Observational drawings made in the artist’s home garden are fed into shadow-based ecologies, and recorded as a series of in-situ collaborations between three agents of light-based representation (shadows, drawings, and video).

Like Light in Light offers questions towards expectations of observing “nature”, and a recognition of shadows as drawings by the world, upon the world. Rather than concrete framing, this project seeks to form and archive productive grounds, where human and nonhuman contributions to nature-cultures are considered simultaneously.
