Kura mokomoko (bask, respond, caution), detail.

Basking is a ongoing series of public programming and art making events, initially funded by Dunedin Dream Brokerage's Off The Ground initiative.

Through exploration and encounter, Basking seeks to  learn lessons from our local mokomoko and in turn better welcome native mokomoko/kaarara into our multispecies future.

Lead by mokomoko whakapapa and reciprocity, observational drawing is used to familiarise ourselves with acts of basking, both functional and poetic.

Applying lizard lessons to appropriate basking surfaces such as terracotta roofing tiles, for installation in lizard friendly gardens, we seek to offer back support and knowledge to our reptilian tuakana.

The initial round of Basking events included an exhibition of drawings and accompanying resource, making, and learning hub, observational drawing waanaka at Orokonui Ecosanctuary, and a lizard learning hui with the Valley Project in North East Valley.
